After a long and eventful semester, we have finally reached Almedalen Week. It’s a week that has the potential to be a festival of democracy. In many ways, our University is at the heart of it all. Campus Gotland is right there in Almedalen and on top of the splendid geographical location, we also take centre stage by offering numerous interesting seminars on a vast range of subjects and fields. We are using the premises we have at our disposal to full advantage and I am looking forward to interesting discussions and meetings. I hope that all of us who are participating this week will remember to listen to one another at least as much as we ourselves speak and share our views.
If you are not one of the many participants but still want to know what’s going on on Gotland this week, you can read more about what we are doing here.
When the week is over, like many others I will be starting my holidays and recharging my batteries for all the autumn’s events. It will be a very welcome break and an opportunity for reflection. I personally will take pleasure in thinking about all the stimulating meetings, all the work done in our important partnerships, our successful research and education. I will also think about the news at the tail end of the spring semester that we have climbed in the QS rankings, that we have won the largest share of all in the Swedish Research Council’s strategic recruitments initiative (associate senior lectureships), as well as four major strategic research initiatives (SFOs). We have a lot to be proud about. Now I wish everyone at our great University a happy summer and look forward to an exciting autumn.
